Mother's Day Weekend, Up-Cycling and Kids Crafts!

So this weekend has been a fun one!
First I went to surprise my mom for mothers day! She had no idea I was coming down to see her and was surprised to  see me walk through the back door! It was really great to spend time with my parents and my sisters! They are so crazy but I am always laughing like crazy when I'm around them. Unfortunately, Paul was working at the flower shop for mothers day and couldn't make it down this time so I just caught a ride down with a girl I found on the school bulletin board. The day I was supposed to leave so ended up getting in a little fender-bender and we didn't end up leaving until around nine and got home at one in the morning!

So I have this little obsession with up-cycling and got a little crafty with an empty Alfredo sauce bottle.  Since we don't have recycling here in Rexburg (well they do but you have to drive all the way to Albertson's to drop it off) and I always hate throwing these glass bottles away. Well I decided to make this one into a little gift for Paul this weekend. I called it 'Fisherman's Grub'. It had fish shaped candies, sour gummy worms and black licorice strings in it. I decorated the bottle with some scrapbook papers I had and added a little saying on it "Grab a line, grabs some worms and go fishing!" under the name. I ended up covering the cap with paper so that the sauce logo wouldn't be seen. That was a little bit more difficult to make but this project was super fun to do and seriously only took me an hour to do! I thought this would be really fun to use for gifts for people but you could but anything in it!

I also got really into old books that I bought from the D.I. I think they work really good for decoration in your house, but I made this one into a scrapbook kind of thing for my sister.
I put some quotes that I liked and pictures of her throughout the whole book.

Now Paul and I just got an Ipad, and I take it to school everyday and I noticed it started to get a little scraped up with me taking it in and out of my bag. So I made this cover for it.  I just took some felt, favorite printed fabric, two colored buttons and hemp string for sewing it together. I lined the felt with he fabric ( I lightly glued down with fabric glue to stay in place) then sewed the two squares together leaving one side open. Then sewing the triangular flap to one of the open sides. Added a button to the flap and then one to the actual case part and tied a little loop on the top button for a harness to keep it closed. This was super fun and super easy!

This next arts and crafts project was actually for my elementary art methods class but I thought it was so cute I had to post about it. Some of you might even remember this from elementary class but what you need is: wax paper, crayons, a pencil sharpener (one you don't particular care if it gets messed up), news paper and an iron. So you start out sharpening the colored crayons that you want to use. Tear out a decent sized piece of wax paper and empty the crayon shavings on the wax paper. Shape into desired shape and fold the wax paper over it and put newspaper over it. Then press down a couple of times the iron and TA-DA its a masterpiece! I added a frame around mine, but I thought this would be so fun with kids and its also really great for window art because you can see through it!

Well there hasn't been really anything new, just school, home work and work! Thanks for taking the time to read this! And hopefully I will have time for some more crafts this next week!
